MAPUSA: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister’s hypocrisy on the much-hyped “Swayampurna government departments” was exposed after he decided to transfer Rs 19 crore from the coffers of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to tide over the financial crisis.
“By withdrawing the money from the board’s coffers without any authority, the State government will be unleashing the biggest scam post-liberation in the education sector. The government will not be allowed to take the money from the coffers as it is the fund collected by the Board, which does not get any grant-in-aid from the State government”, Khaunte claimed.
“The CM should work out a way to generate revenue rather than eye Board coffers. One hand CM has been insisting that the government departments should be swayampurna without depending on the assistance from the State but on the other hand, the State government is taking away the money which is saved by the Board,” he alleged.
“The Goa Board was a unique example of Swayampurna. The clause, which is quoted by the government to divert the funds from the Board, is an irrelevant section dealing with the change in syllabus and related issues. This government is confused and working by jumlas,” he charged.
Meanwhile, the Porvorim demanded that the State government come out with an open vaccination programme for all. He called upon the government to create awareness on the vaccine.
Alleging that the awareness on the vaccine is lacking, Khaunte said, “The State government has made COVID vaccine jabs available for senior citizens and those aged between 45-59 years with comorbidities at health centre level. However, there is inadequate response due to lack of awareness on the vaccine among the people”.
