MARGAO/SANGUEM/PERNEM: “The government is working to take development to the grassroots and the lowest strata of the society,” Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar said after hoisting the tricolour on the 73rd Indian Independence Day celebration at South Goa Collectorate.
Present on the occasion were Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa, Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias, Collector Ajit Roy (IAS), South Goa Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas, Congress leader Girish Chodankar and many others.
“We are on the top of the development chart in the country. Even after having been liberated 14 years after India, we can do more with the support of the people,” Kavlekar said.
Asserting that the government is committed to the welfare of the people, Kavlekar said, “I have been given an opportunity to serve as the agriculture minister of the State and we will, together, make sure that every farmer gets market for his produce and every agriculture land gets water for cultivation.”
He also urged the opposition give time to improve after criticising.
Elsewhere in Pernem taluka, I-Day programmes were enthusiastically celebrated in different schools, panchayat and administrative offices.
A taluka level celebration was held outside Administrative building Pernem where Dy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar unfurled the tricolour. Dy Collector Chandrakant Shetkar, Mamlatdar Rajesh Ajgaonkar, Chairperson of Pernem Civic body Shweta Kambli, Police Inspector Harish Madkaikar, Fire station-in charge Namdev Parwar and officials and staff of different departments were also present.
Different schools located in Pernem municipal jurisdiction also participated in the celebration. Addressing the gathering, the Dy CM appreciated the immediate action taken by Pernem police on Arambol drugs case involving six Nigerians. He further appealed to the people of Pernem taluka to support and cooperate with the Government and police in solving issues like drugs.
“We want rich and standard tourist to visit Goa and not those who are involved in alcohol and drugs. Not only beaches but different temples and open places will be beautified in Pernem, which will attract the tourists inside the villages in future. We need to keep the beaches clean with all the required facilities. Around 200 crore rupees are sanctioned for beach development all over the state. I appeal the concern MLAs from coastal belt to come forward and gather documents which are required while developments of coastal belt”, added Ajgaonkar.
Meanwhile in Sanguem taluka, Independence Day was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm at Sapana City Aquem Margao by organising various entertainment programme for the resident children.
The programme organised by Sapana City Co op. Housing Society Ltd comprised of programmes as that of fancy dress competition, drawing competition for seniors and juniors, dance programme, quiz competition and singing competition.
