Even as the clamour to retain the ground at Multipurpose complex gains momentum, Town and Country Planning Minister and local MLA Vijai Sardessai announced that he had asked the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation to work on an alternative proposal that retains the ground.
“I have no problem in keeping the ground and have in fact asked the GSIDC to work on an alternative plan where the ground presently used for cricket is retained,” he said while pointing out the need to upgrade the buildings to accommodate the growing demand with the increasing number of students.
It may be recalled that Vijai along with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar visited the site some time back and subsequently it was revealed that the buildings need to be expanded and would be housed at the second ground while the football ground would be upgraded.
However locals objected to this and the movement to retain the ground has been gaining momentum with volunteers collecting signatures at the ground and people have been invited to come on Sunday to sign the petition demanding that the government retain the ground while upgrading the complex to erect new buildings to accommodate the new students joining the different institutes running in the complex.
