Amit Palekar appeared almost all of a sudden and was thrust onto the centre-stage of AAP politics in Goa. Asked how did this happen and he said, “I was in Delhi for a case and stayed with a friend whose child interacted with me. I found the child was so intelligent, so I asked my friend your child is so intelligent, cant you afford to put her in private school?.” “My friend said you don’t know how government schools are in Delhi. So we went to drop her to school. Honestly I was mesmerised. It was nothing short of an international school,” Palekar said.
Palekar added, “When I went to join I was shown Mohalla Clinics. Then when I went to meet my leader (Kejriwal) he told me, do you want to do honest and sincere politics, this is the place for you, otherwise that is the door. Which party or leader has the guts to tell you
this behind closed doors,” Palekar asked. “Do I have a choice? AAP is one of the most honest parties in the world,” he claimed.
Has fighting against heavyweights and veterans been a challenge?
“They are heavyweights in terms of corruption. What have they done, have they done something for the betterment of Goa? Can you imagine the 3000% growth in the wealth of the Environment and Power Minister? It’s not a difficult choice to make when you compare such people with a govt that is going to work for them,” Palekar claimed.
