Speaking to the media, Benaulim MLA Caetano (Caitu) Silva said that the matter is more political than legal. “I knew this would be the outcome. The matter has been sent back to the Home Ministry and the entire procedure will start again,” Silva said.
“I had full guarantee that the judges at High Court will be with the truth. I cancelled my birthday celebrations as I was tense,” he said.
He added, “In 2010 some people found some letter on the internet,
according to which they claimed that I was a Portuguese citizen. This was a cheap trick by the opposition as they knew I would be contesting the election.”
“The person and his family who are now preparing to contest against me in Benaulim have planned and put thousands of Goans in trouble today. This kind of person has no right to contest and be a leader as a leader protects the interests of people and doesn’t put them in trouble,” Silva said.
He said he was born in Goa in 1959 and at that time all births were registered by the Portuguese authority.
