CUNCOLIM: The woman who was manhandled and detained by some Chinchinim locals at the church compound on suspicion of stealing valuables from vehicles parked in the close vicinity of the church, has denied all charges.
Further, she has complained that her image have been maligned by some locals who video recorded the incident and uploaded the same on social media.
The woman said that she has also uploaded a video on social media giving her version of the incident.
According to woman, on the day of incident, she was passing through Chinchinim side where she found a bunch of keys on the road side. Presuming that the keys might be of some parishioners, she went to the Chinchinim church to hand them over to the priest who would in turn hand over them to its owner.
She said that since mass was progressing at the Church then, she waited for the services to get over. However, as she was waiting there, a person came over to her and questioned her presence there. And without listening to what she said, the person called some other people telling them that the woman stole valuables from the vehicles parked in the vicinity.
This incident was video recorded by some villagers who uploaded the video on social media. By doing so, the woman claimed, her image has been maligned.
It may recall that two days ago, at Chinchinim church, some locals saw a woman with a bunch of keys and suspected that she used those keys to steal money from vehicles parked outside the church.
Some locals present there caught her and handed over to Cuncolim police. Some of those present video recorded the incident and uploaded on social media.
Strengthening their suspicion, the locals found two Adhar cards with her giving different identity. Cuncolim police latter produced her before a magistrate who released since there was no case against her.
Police said that there was no issue over the identity of the woman; she was born Hindu and married a Muslim, hence her name was changed.
