KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the newly joined Goa TMC leader Luizinho Faleiro had an hour-long interaction at the former’s office in Kolkata. While there were many points that were confidential and related to strategy and approach, it is reliably learnt that what emerged was Didi’s all-out support to make this work.
In fact, it was Faleiro was said on a couple of occasions that time would be a bit of a challenge that would have to be overcome. At this Mamata quipped that time was enough and a lot could be done given Goa’s size. She then said in her inimitable way, “I will walk with you.”
Though literally, she meant that she could campaign for long distances on foot to strengthen grassroots connect, her words figuratively meant much more. She was categorical that the Goa team would conceptualise, lead and implement strategy and she would provide full support.
Significantly, she said that Goa had a unique identity, culture and ethos which could be best protected by Goans alone. She said that she would not interfere in the process but only give full and committed backing.
