Calangute: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Tuesday said the main demand of the youth today is for playgrounds as a number of old grounds are vanishing because of the boom in the construction industry.
“Our youth are telling our elected representatives ‘we want a place to play’. This is in demand now. Our older generation had kept some spaces where youth in the past used to play. Now those spaces are going. I feel all panchayats should identify and mark these spaces which are still there on their plans so that the generation-next get these grounds. Otherwise in the future there will be no grounds left,” he said.
“Some are comunidade lands. They should be acquired for public usage. Different types of facilities can be built on community land. The village panchayats should identify these places. We need to block these places,” he said.
On Tuesday, Lobo along with North Goa ZP chairman Siddesh Naik, Calangute ZP member Dattaprasad Dabholkar and Arpora-Nagoa panchayat members inaugurated a cricket batting practice track at Arpora.
