panjim: In a bid to ensure that there is no disruption of education for school-going children of migrant workers, who have left the State in view of COVID-19 pandemic, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has asked schools to identify and map such students.

Since March, over one lakh migrants have left the State with their families.

In a circular issued to Heads of Schools on Thursday, Director Education Santosh Amonkar has said that the information be submitted within eight days, so that the same be forwarded to the Union Ministry for Human Resources Development (MHRD).

The information has been sought from primary, secondary, higher secondary and special schools.

“Due to COVID-19 large numbers of migrant labourers along with their families and children have returned to their native place and are likely to stay there for varying period. This may lead to a disruption in studies and learning of children of migrant labourers,” circular stated.

The department has said that it’s important to ensure that access to education is given to all such children, so that the challenge thrown by the pandemic does not stop the continuous learning of any students.

“Schools are hereby requested to furnish information of such migrant labourers children within eight days for compilation and onward submission to MHRD,’ it added.

The educational institutions in Goa have been shut since mid-March, 2020. However, from June onwards, the schools have commenced online education, to cope up with the syllabus for the current academic year.
