PANJIM: Stating the government can look for alternate site for marina, Waste Management Minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Wednesday said he is ready to welcome the project in his constituency if people and panchayat agree.
Lobo said he is with the people of Nauxim and has spoken to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on the issue.
“We have told that if the people do not want the marina project then it needs to be shifted out of Nauxim,” he said.
Asked whether he is ready to welcome it in his constituency, Lobo said that if people and panchayat permit “why not?”|
Lobo said his constituency has two rivers Sinquerim and Baga and if people agree a site can be chosen.
“The marina is a good project it will bring in more tourists and give more jobs. Marina could be temporary structure with pontoons. Ours is a tourist constituency and if people agree I welcome it,” he said.
Earlier, St Andre MLA Francis Silveira categorically said he stands with the people of Nauxim against the proposed marina project.
On Sunday, the locals at Nauxim held a massive protest against the government’s plans.
Silveira said he stands with the people in the agitation.
“This project has been there since 2010 and I have always opposed it. CM was out of station, I will meet him today and express my sentiments,” he told reporters.
Silveira said the CM can shift the project to other tourism places like Calangute and Baga.
