VAGATOR: Every single authority connected with protecting the clearly illegal structure at survey number 206 of Small Vagator appears clearly complicit in the Vagator hill being destroyed and a nightclub without any permission continuing its business.
On April 5, O Heraldo reported Anjuna Comunidade’s ‘Jungle’ raj: Serve notices, but keep allowing illegal structures in full swing, highlighting how a new nightclub was functioning at the very spot (survey number 206) where the earlier proposed illegal nightclub was stopped due to O Heraldo’s reportage on November 9, 2022.
Even after that report, the entire gamut of authorities are busy passing the buck of ignoring this illegality on land that is under their supervision, but no one has even gone to the spot to see this club called the Origen’s Jungle Club.
Look at what each authority said when O Heraldo asked them about this new Origen’s Jungle Club. Each reply was evasive, vague and all about passing the buck.
Deputy Collector, Bardez Gurudas Desai: “Since it is a Comunidade land, the matter is referred to the Administrator of Comunidades for action.”
Deputy Town Planner Jaidev Aldonkar: “In December itself a letter was moved to the Anjuna Comunidade asking to locate the site and to the Anjuna Police to stop the hill cutting.”
(Herald asks: Did the Town Planner check to see if the Comunidade and Police carried out what was asked?)
Do they also know that another illegal nightclub has come up on the same spot?)
President of Anjuna Comunidade Dominic Pereira: “A show cause notice was issued to the person concerned (the person who was believed to be illegally operating from Survey 206 of Little Vagator). However, the comunidade office did not receive any response to the same. After which we made a letter to TCP and Anjuna Police for action.”
When further questioned about the club opening at the site, Pereira said that he is not aware that the site is being used as a club.
When Pereira was questioned whether the Comunidade took any decision against Mangaldas Govekar, who was purportedly supervising the construction of the earlier nightclub, he said that they were “too busy to discuss the matter in the last meeting held last Wednesday” nor did any of the committee members visit the site.
(Herald asks: It’s been five months since the Comunidade was forced to take cognisance. Look at the mockery here. The Comunidade asks TCP to take action and the TCP says has asked the Comunidade to locate the land. The land and the survey number are known and established.
On April 18, Anjuna Sarpanch Laxmidas Chimulkar said that he was not aware that the place is hosting parties and said that he will investigate the matter. After seven days of O Heraldo reporting about the club, the sarpanch said, “I have not visited the site again, but I will look into the matter by tomorrow and take necessary action.”
(Herald asks: How can the Sarpanch of a village not be aware of an illegal nightclub operating on a spot where illegal activity had already been found and show notices been issued? On April 19, when this reporter called Chimulkar to ask if he had “taken action” as promised, he did not take calls)
This is the ongoing story of absolute complicity in allowing rampant illegality to prosper with hills and trees getting destroyed at the altar of greed and corruption.
