IFFI curtains open today

PANJIM: The curtains of the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will open at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao at 5 pm on Sunday.

Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant; Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan will also be present at the opening ceremony.

Film personalities Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, Prabhu Deva, Mrunal Takhur, Varun Dhawan, Catherine Teresa, Sara Ali Khan, Karthik Aryan and Amruta Khanvilkar will grace the opening ceremony. 

Opening ceremony will see many cultural performances featuring top film celebrities from across India and will also include music and dance groups all across the globe. Among them will be a stellar flamenco performance by artistes from Spain.

The theme of the opening ceremony is “Evolution of Indian Cinema in the last 100 years”, keeping with the spirit of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations.

The Indian Film Personality of the Year 2022 will be announced at IFFI inaugural on Sunday.

The Austrian film, Alma and Oskar, directed by Dieter Berner, will open the festival. Red Carpet for opening film will commence at 2 pm at INOX-I, Panjim, followed by the screening of the film.

A total of 25 feature films and 19 non-feature films from India will be showcased in the ‘Indian Panorama’ while 183 films will be a part of nine-day international programming.

Film Bazaar organised by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) will also be organised on the sidelines of the festival.
