IFFI delegates to get chance of attending workshops

FTII will collaborate with festival to conduct classes; UNESCO tie up will allow people with visual disabilities to watch films

PANJIM: The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) on Wednesday stated that IFFI this year has collaborated with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and thereby delegates will get a chance to attend various workshops during the festival. This is in complete contrast to last year when two former FTII students had been detained by Goa Police after they chanted slogans and displayed placards at the opening ceremony of the IFFI following the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as chairman of the institute.
Addressing the media, ESG CEO Ameya Abhyankar said three workshops will be conducted for delegates in screenplay writing, acting and film appreciation and in addition to this IFFI has also tied up with UNESCO to show films for people with visual disabilities.
“Everything is going as per order. This year ESG will be targeting sponsorship worth Rs 3 crore. We have seen a significant rise in delegate registrations and till date 4500 delegates have registered and some applications are in process,” Abhyankar said.
“South Korea will be the focus country at IFFI 2016. In addition Indo-Korean IT manufacturers business delegation will also meet on the sidelines of IFFI 2016,” he added.
He further informed that 25 percent of the funds will be raised through sponsors and the government will be spending around Rs 13 to 13.5 crore to host the festival.
He said the tendering process was conducted though a transparent procedure, while almost 80 to 85 percent payments will be done by the Central government.
The CEO also expressed dissatisfaction as business avenues remain restricted at IFFI as the NFDC Film Bazaar has not successfully been integrating with IFFI.
There will also be other activities at the venue such as projector mapping, slingshot, fringe events on cinematic themes, wellness summits, children’s film village at Campal and ESG is also planning to have mobile screening in the interior places of Goa.
Lastly, the ESG is also planning to release the schedule, synopsis of films well in advance for the delegates as they can plan their schedule.
