PANJIM, JULY 8
The Special Court will give its order on July 27 on a petition filed by activist Kashinath Shetye seeking thorough investigation into the alleged IFFI 2004 related scam running into crores of rupees.
Special Judge Nutan Sardessai today heard arguments put forth by both the parties – Kashinath Shetye and the CBI which has been investigating the case.
The complaint was filed by Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho in 2006 alleging multi-crore scam in IFFI related works, against Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar and others.
Parrikar who was chief minister in 2004 was also chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
Major infrastructure development for holding first the IFFI in Goa was executed through GSIDC.
The contention of the petitioner is that members of the core committee who were part of the decision making body were not investigated.
However, CBI has maintained that core committee members have been questioned. He had also alleged that the firm Bharat Construction which was owned by a wife of top politician had been awarded IFFI contracts.
The politician was member of the core committee.
The Special Public Prosecutor S R Rivonkar appearing on behalf of CBI however told the Court today that the work was sub-contracted to the firm by main contractor which was selected by GSIDC and the core committee had nothing to do with awarding work to Bharat construction.
The core committee was a policy making body.
