PANJIM: Vice Chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa Vishnu Wagh has sought that there should be a five-year agreement between the Goa government and the Directorate of Film Festivals while organizing the International Film Festival of India, instead of the annual agreement that is currently being signed.
“Goa is a permanent venue only for namesake. In reality, a contract is drawn up with the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) every year to host it here. There is no sense of permanence about Goa as a venue,” Wagh had said.
In the run up to the organizing of the IFFI scheduled to be held in November this year, Wagh has also said that the ESG should be given more say in the organization of IFFI, especially given that Goa spends a sizeable chunk of the money to host the festival.
“Goa is a permanent namesake venue. In reality, a contract is drawn up with the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) every year to host it here. There is no sense of permanence about Goa as a venue,” Wagh claimed.
IFFI is organized every year through a joint venture between the Directorate of Film Festivals under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and the Entertainment Society, wherein the DFF takes care of the content of the festival including the technical aspects of showcasing films and the ESG looks after logistics, hosting and other requirements of the festival delegates and guests.
Goa has been the “permanent” venue for IFFI since 2004, when the state first hosted the festival.
