MARGAO: Loliem gram sabha on Sunday is likely to witness noisy scenes as the proposed IIT in the village is all set to be the focus of discussion as both groups have decided to garner maximum support of the people from the village.
The Loliem village which was till recent times a peaceful border village of Goa has now turned into a battle field on the IIT issue.
The MIND (Movement for IIT and National Development) which is in favour of the IIT in Loliem and the Citizens Committee of Loliem (CCL) have been going around the village seeking support. Locals of Loliem informed that the village saw aggressive campaigning which not even witnessed during the elections held in recent times.
Representatives such as Sandesh Prabudessai, Prashant Naik, Mohandas Lolienkar and several others, who are either heads or office bearers of institutions in Canacona, have been garnering support in favour of the IIT.
Meanwhile, Dennis Fernandes, Manoj Prabhugaonkar and others are meeting people requesting them to vote against the project.
Prashant Naik of MIND said, “Meetings have been held by supporters of IIT all over the village and have asked the broadcast mediums including social media to garner support for IIT. We are contemplating huge support from the villagers for the IIT-related gram sabha “.
However, the CCL, who has opposed IIT in Loliem, has alleged that the gram sabha, will be contrary to the one held earlier, and has categorically ruled out any project on any the plateaus or land masses at Loliem.
