It is amazing to see how illegal businesses, pertaining mainly to cementworks –flower pots and balusters producing units have sprung up all along the main road leading to Panjim, just on the borders of St Cruz village. Mainly run by migrants, the units have encroached upon green fields and are blatantly conducting brisk business under the eyes of everyone passing by. Small hutments have already started mushrooming behind these units. It is evident that they do not fear eviction or prosecution as otherwise they would have not set up close to the main road. As usual, this would not be possible without the blessings of the local panchayat or politicians. If not these units would be shut and demolished.
What is scary is the fact that these illegal businesses are not being shut by the concerned authorities in spite of being located on one of the main roads leading to Panjim. Is it the duty of citizens to run from pillar to post to file complaints before any action will be initiated? Is this not the responsibility of our authorities to prevent such illegal activities from being conducted? Moreover it is pure encouragement for others to do the same……. Authorities concerned, please wake up and do your job.
