MAPUSA: An illegal construction on the roadside at Calangute continues to stand tall despite several notices.
It is pertinent to note despite several notices by the local panchayat and action initiated by Bardez Deputy Collector, the concerned person has continued with the illegal construction at Naikawado, Calangute.
Before the lockdown, the concerned person started the construction work. A local complained to the panchayat and Bardez Deputy Collector about the illegal construction. Acting on the complaint, the panchayat conducted a site inspection and issued show cause notice to the concerned person since the work was carried out without the permission of the local authorities.
The Deputy Collector had also directed BDO to take necessary action and had also instructed the police to maintain a strict vigil to ensure that no construction is carried out. The concerned person continued with the construction with no proper setback to the road as per government requirement.
Calangute sarpanch Francisco Rodrigues refused to provide any details on the action initiated by the panchayat.
The Panchayat Secretary directed the complainant to file RTI and get required information.
