Illegal extraction of basalt stones at Bandoli

TEAM HERALDCURCHOREM: Some persons have been accused of extracting basalt stones worth about Rs 25.71 crore from a quarry in Bandoli-Dharbandora.

Speaking to Herald, Curchorem Police Inspector Ravindra Dessai said that the Mines and Geology Department Technical Assistant S Kalaguntkar complained that some persons had entered the government revenue land and had illegally extracted basalt stones worth about Rs 25.71 crore from the Bandol quarry at Dharbandora without obtaining permission.
Acting on the complaint, a police team, officials from the Mines Department and the local talahi visited the site and found 4,12,168 cubic metres of basalt stones had been illegally extracted. The mines officials then worked out the approximate value of the illegally extracted basalt stones.
“We conducted the panchanama and it looks like that extraction was going on for the last many years. We will come to know everything once the investigation is over,” informed PI Ravindra Dessai. Police is investigating the case.
