PERNEM: The illegal advertisement hoardings put up in a large numbers by the roadside and near junctions in the Morjim Village Panchayat jurisdiction is the reason behind roads accidents, claimed Morjim locals.
Locals have expressed disappointment against the panchayat for not taking action despite complaining for the last several months.
The business establishments in the Morjim Panchayat are growing rapidly due to coastal tourism and entrepreneurs are putting up their hoardings wherever possible without obtaining the required permits.
Albert Fernandes, a local, expressed discontent because the panchayat is not taking any action against the violators despite passing a resolution regarding the same in the gram sabha. Some of the hoardings are in Russian language, where they have misspelled the names of the beaches. The panchayat do not get any kind of revenue from these billboards and so locals are waiting for the panchayat to hold a drive to remove them.
Meanwhile, Morjaai Devasthan Samiti’s Chairman Gopal Shetgaonakr said that an awareness campaign will be held for such activities to cease.
