MARGAO: Villagers of Camurlim on Monday stopped the alleged illegal land development activity at the hilly area of Khursabhat, Camurlim.
The villagers have claimed that the case in this matter is pending before the court for judgment.
As informed by villagers Augustinho Cardozo and Satyawan Kamat, there is a stay order against the property and despite, activities of land development; hill and tree cutting are going on.
“Land at Khursabhatt is being developed illegally and it has caused damage to the environment. We are fighting against this illegal activity for last many years. Recently the court has given stay, but despite the order, illegal land development is going on,” said Satyawan.
He also informed that a few days back several trees were cut down and villagers had a complaint about this to the forest department.
“Today again they were engaged in illegal activities of land developing, but we stopped them doing so,” informed Augustinho.
He alleged that several high-profile politicians from Salcete are involved in these illegal land developing activities at Khursabhatt, Camurlim.
