Illegal laterite quarry raided, offences registered against unknown person

QUEPEM: Quepem Police on Wednesday along with officials of Directorate of Mines and Geology, Panjim conducted a raid at Pansaimol-Usgalimal, Sanguem against an illegal laterite quarry and registered multiple offences against unknown person under relevant section.

According to the information available an offence has been registered against unknown persons under Section 379 of IPC, Section 4 (1) of Mines and Mineral (development and regulation) Act 1957 and rules 3 and 38 of Goa Daman and Diu minor mineral concession rules 1985.

Police said that Jeetendra Veluskar Assistant geologist of  Directorate of Mines and Geology Panjim has lodged the complaint in this regard. Police said that prior to June 7 at Panamol, Usgalimal, Sanguem an unknown accused person carried out illegal quarrying of laterite stones and committed theft of laterite stones for personal gain  and thus committed offence.

Police sub inspector Veronica Coutinho is conducting the investigation under the supervision of PI Deepak Pedneker.

It may be recalled that many deaths have taken place in the stone quarries which are filled with water in the monsoon. Youngsters, police say, are lured to these quarries thinking they are not deep. However, many of these youngsters, mostly of migrants, get drowned due to negligence.
