Illegal laterite stone extraction: One granted anticipatory bail

MARGAO: The South Goa District and Session Court on Saturday granted anticipatory bail with conditions to Vishwas Dessai of Gaonkarwada, Pirla-Quepem required by Quepem Police in connection with a case of an illegal laterite stone extraction activity.

As per order of Judge Vincent Silva, the applicant shall be released on bail on furnishing personal bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety in the like amount, to the satisfaction of the Investigating Officer.

Quepem Police while opposing the anticipatory bail of Vishwas in the court submitted that Pooja Shirodkar, assistant geologist, Directorate of Mines and Geology lodged a complaint stating that when she conducted a raid along with other officials, unknown accused were found indulging in illegal laterite stone extraction activity. She stated that they were using four power tiller machines with horizontal laterite cutting blade etc. without obtaining necessary licence from the competent authority and thus committed theft of number of laterite stones valued at Rs 1,03,26,082 and during the raid conducted by the complainant, the accused fled away from the spot.
