MAPUSA: In a late night development, the Bardez Mamlatdar Pravin Gawas, found illegally extracted sand dumps along the Chapora river, at Camurlim, when he carried out a joint operation along with officials of the Mines Department and Colvale police.
The mamlatdar said that they had received a telephonic complaint of illegal sand extraction activity in Camurlim area.
“We haven’t found any ongoing activities, but found dumps of sand at different locations. The surprise visit was conducted along with Mines department technical officer Kalangutkar and Colvale police,” Mamlatdar Gawas said.
“Illegal sand extraction is completely banned. Having found the dumps of sand it is clear that the information received was correct that extraction was going on. As per the court order, directions are issued to the Public Works Department to depute it’s staff and dump the sand back into the river after completing the process,” the mamlatdar informed.
A complaint has been lodged against unknown persons in this regard.
