Illegal sand extraction at Aldona continues unabated

ALDONA: Illegal sand extraction continues unabated at Aldona between Postar Quitla and a property allegedly bought by a film actor at Chorjuem.
A video is circulating on social media, including facebook page ‘Aldona Matters’, showing extraction of sand from Aldona River.
The locals are angry that authorities concerned have not stopped the activity.
On March 6, the assistant geologist designated for Bardez raided the spot and seven people carrying out sand extraction were arrested. It came to light that the accused were illegally extracting sand and transporting it.
The official had then assured to stop the activity and keep a watch in the area and seize trucks involved in this illegal activity. However, presently sand extraction is being carried out brazenly at a new location.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar said that if illegal sand extraction is being carried out from Aldona River, it needs to be addressed at the earliest.
A local said that sand mining is being carried out on a very large scale and is being operated by people from in and around the surrounding area of Quitla, but the authorities concerned seem to be turning a blind eye towards it.
