Illegal scrapyards demolished in Bhoma-Adkon Panchayat area

PONDA: The Bhoma-Adkon Panchayat is on the verge of becoming a scrapyard free panchayat. Out of 14 illegal scrapyards, 12 has been demolished so far with two of them located at Muslimwada, Bhoma, were demolished on Monday with help of JCB machines.

The Ponda Mamlatdar, Ponda Police along with the BDO officials, Electricity and PWD Staff, local Sarpanch Sunil Bhomkar and panchas were present to maintain law and order.

Sarpanch Bhomkar said that following the complaints from locals the scrapyards were demolished under Panchayat Raj Act. 

He said, “There are around 14 scrapyards out of which 10 have been cleared in the past. Some scrapyards issue is pending in the court and today there was an order came for demolishing of the two scrapyards.”

“Some were located by the roadside and vehicular movement near these scrapyards was causing traffic obstructions. There were complaints from the locals about unwanted activities at the scrapyards. During every gram sabha, the locals used to raise the issue,” he added.  

“Action would continue in case against any illegal scrapyards in the near future.” 

Deputy Sarpanch Shailesh Shet said, “The area where scrapyards are demolished have become clean now.” He warned that all the illegal scrapyards will be demolished.  

The locals raising voice against the illegal scrapyards were also present.
