Illegal shop put up overnight demolished at Vasco

The shop was demolished within 12 hours after it mushroomed illegally.

VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council on Monday demolished within 12 hours an illegal shop put up at the basement of a commercial building, here. 

The shop with a shutter had sprouted overnight on Sunday when the municipality was closed. The illegal shop had shocked shopkeepers and traders situated in the building and the also citizens, who demanded immediate action after the illegal shop went viral on social media.

On Monday, Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Leo Rodrigues took immediate action and ordered demolition of the shop, which was razed by municipal workers by using an excavator. The shop was demolished within 12 hours after it mushroomed illegally. 

Rodrigues said that though it was not immediately known who had carried out the illegal activity and who was its owner, the municipality will not tolerate any illegality in the port town. 

He also warned that nobody should take undue advantage of the fact that the Mormugao Municipal Council remaining closed on Sunday and public holidays and carry out illegalities.
