Despite several complaints from the villagers, the concerned officials have failed to take action against the alleged illegal activity. The activity is disturbing the environment of two primary schools and a high school located in the vicinity. To add to this, the movement of stone-laden trucks has been posing danger to the motorists and the villagers as well.
Earlier, the villagers had filed complaints to Directorate of Mines & Geology on October 19th and had forwarded the copies of the same to Pernem Police, Tuem Panchayat and Chief Minister.
Acting on the complaint, Tuem sarpanch and Pernem police had conducted a site inspection and had stopped the work for eight days.
But later the quarry parties went ahead with alleged illegal activity despite being issued a warning that the machines and equipment would be seized. The work is going on in full swing and police are yet to seize the machinery.
The complainant Babaji Kishor Naik Gaonkar has been complaining to the Mines Department and Panchayat time and time again, but his complaints have fallen on deaf ears.
In the complaint, Gaonkar has also requested the authorities to initiate action against ex Sarpanch of Tuem Suhas Uttam Naik, whose JCB machines and trucks are being used in the alleged illegal activity and also against Krishna Naik, a Tuem resident.
