VASCO: Illegal structures have started mushrooming in Gandhinagar area near Jatashankar Shiva temple.

Members of the temple trust have filed a complaint with the municipality against the mushrooming structures, following which, the local councillor and chief officer have assured to inspect the place and take action.

Since the past few months the area surrounding the Baba Ramadhar Shiv Shakti Seva Samiti Jatashankar Ashram Trust, is witnessing sudden sprout of concrete structures. This has raised concerns and anger among the trust members and locals. The area where the illegal structures have cropped up reportedly belongs to the Mormugao Comunidade.

The trust members claim that despite several complaints to the Vasco police and the Municipality, these illegalities have not stopped; instead several rooms and concrete structures have come up since the last few days.  According to the trust members, few days ago, after repeated complaints, police and MMC staff inspected the site and warned the people not to build illegal structures. However, after a few days, the illegal constructions have resumed.

When contacted, Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar said that MMC has to verify the complaint that several illegal rooms have been constructed near the Jatashankar temple.

He said that he has given direction to the municipal technical team to inspect the site. “If the staffers have already done the inspection, then I will check the report and take action,” Sankhwalkar said.

Meanwhile, Ward Councillor Dhanpal Swamy said that he had received numerous complaints and counter complaints of illegal rooms being constructed near the Jatashankar temple.

“This land where the structures have mushroomed belongs to the comunidade and we will soon inspect the site along with the chief officer, after which he would take decision on handling the issue,” Swamy added.
