Illegal vendors mushrooming in Mormugao municipal jurisdiction

VASCO: With council or no council, the administration in Vasco municipal council area seems to have lost somewhere in the crowd of the people, who come in large number to make purchases, from the illegal street vendors, who encroach and sit by the roadside.

The Mormugao Municipal Council has although seems to play blind on this issue.

From the last few months during the COVID-19 pandemic time, several illegal vendors have mushroomed in the municipal jurisdiction with no control and action from the municipality side on these illegal vendors. Many tend to give a common reason of COVID-19 pandemic and survival, to start doing business illegally by the roadside, footpaths and even in their vehicles.

Some locals when questioned randomly about what they feel about this issue said that the situation has reached at a point that “as if there is an anarchy with no rules and regulations being implemented strictly which further boosts the people’s morale to dare to start their illegal businesses without taking proper permissions from the local governing body”.

One person, who was taking multiple rounds across municipality building to identify a parking space to park his car, said that it is highly difficult to find a space to park cars as all the parking space before municipality building is pre-occupied by the taxi cab drivers which is actually not right. The space is meant for all visitors and not for the cab drivers particularly.
