PONDA: The Mines Department Official along with Ponda Water Resource, Ponda Police Sub-Inspector Paresh Sinari, Ponda Mamlatdar Abeer Hede conducted raids at Betki, Khandola and Volvoi river bank and seized around 320 cubic meter of sand illegally extracted by the locals.
Of the total seized sand, 120 cubic meters of sand was seized at Betki, while 200 metres at Volvoi. Ponda Mamlatdar said the raid was conducted after some locals complained about the illegal extraction of sand.
It is learnt that the Mines Department had not renewed the licence for sand extraction. Locals involved in sand extraction said that though they have deposited money for licences with Mines Department, they have not been issued the same affecting their livelihood.
