PANJIM: Indian Medical Association (IMA) has demanded action against a woman, who along with her father, allegedly assaulted Dr Babu Redkar from Carmona.
An IMA delegation led by State President Dr Medha Salkar met Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar demanding the arrest of the woman who has been missing since the time the doctor lodged a police complaint.
Parrikar assured the delegation that action would be initiated and stated that ‘no one can take the law into their hand’.
“The assault took place on April 10 at a private clinic of Dr Babu Redkar in Carmona. A woman, along with her 65-year-old father, abused and assaulted Dr Redkar,” Salkar told media persons.
She said that the man was arrested after an IMA delegation met Superintendent of Police (South) on Tuesday, but the woman has been missing. “We want your good office to get this lady culprit extradited from whichever country she has fled. Once she is back, she should be punished under the Goa Medicare Act 2013,” the memorandum to the chief minister states.
IMA said that action by the CM will act as a deterrent not only in Goa but all over India where violence against doctors is flaring up.
Informing the media about the same, Parrikar said that anyone taking the law into their hands would not be tolerated. “I can be sympathetic and listen to the grievances but will not allow anyone to take the law into their hands,” he said.
Colva police have booked one Mclean George and an unknown woman in the alleged assault on the doctor while the deceased patient’s family filed a counter complaint against the doctor and his compounder for allegedly assaulting the complainant.
