IMA Goa reaches out to 4,200 patients in fight against COVID

MARGAO: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Goa State has successfully completed one month of teleconsultations and support to COVID-19 positive home isolation patients across the State.

The project conceptualised by the working committee of IMA Goa under the leadership of State President Dr Samuel Arawattigi on a public-private partnership (PPP) model with the State government has benefited more than 4,200 patients so far. 

Out of these 4,200 patients, around 38 patients needed to be shifted to nearby COVID Care Centres; four were needed to be shifted to Margao ESI Hospital and six to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

IMA Goa also provides paid COVID Care Centre at Ocean Residency, Colva wherein till now, IMA have admitted 43 patients out of which three were needed to be shifted to different COVID care centres and hospitals.

Oceanic Wellness, Sangolda, IMA has taken care of 58 patients and none of them were required to be shifted out. A facility at Planet Hollywood, Utorda is also operated where only one patient was admitted.

“IMA Goa with its 150-member doctors from Mormugao, Margao, Bardez, Bicholim, Tiswadi, Curchorem, Quepem, Sanguem (CQS) and Ponda branches have provided relentless gratuitous service to the COVID patients guiding them throughout with medical advice and counselling round the clock during their 17 days home isolation period,” informed Dr Samuel.

IMA Goa also received complete support of doctors from Indian Dental Association, Goa. They looked after and monitored patients from Sattari, Sanquelim and Candolim under the valuable guidance of the expert doctors of IMA Goa to ensure that the home isolated citizens of the State are restored to health by monitoring the vital parameters.

A medical kit consisting of tools such as pulse-oximeter, thermometer, medicines, disinfectants, gloves and mask were made available at nominal price as part of the exercise. IMA Goa also wants doctors from Ayush branch to join this innovative project and is in touch with their associations.

“The IMA has a big experts’ panel of doctors and the statistics are a testimony of the yeomen service doctors of IMA Goa State has provided in the past one month during the fight against COVID-19 pandemic,” said the IMA Goa branch president.

IMA Goa State has extended full support to Government of Goa in its fight against COVID-19 and is advising all citizens to follow advice of the government to wear masks, follow social distancing, repeated hand washing and to take care of the elderly and people with co-morbidities.
