PANJIM: As State government appeals private hospitals to make their Outpatient Departments (OPDs) operational, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa unit has also urged its members to run the department, while requesting the doctors, above the age of 60 years, to avoid their service.
IMA Goa President Dr S Samuel Arawattigi explained that that after an in-depth discussion with other state IMAs and the Central IMA and considering the recommendations under the revoked Central Disaster Management Act and also the recent suggestion by the State government, they have decided to run the OPDs.
“However, those doctors, above the age of 60 years should avoid OPD services as far as possible and the same be taken up by other junior doctors, having proper staff,” he said.
The president added that the suspected cases of COVID19 be referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC). He added that in the event of any doctor developing symptoms of coronavirus, then the helpline number should be called.
“As far as possible avoid routine surgeries and perform the emergency cases with proper care,” he said.
Arawattigi has asked hospitals to ensure that social distancing norms are followed while maintaining one metre distance in the sitting hall, throughout the consulting time.
Hospitals are directed to ensure that they have adequate N95 masks and other personal protection equipments for him/herself and staff also, proper ventilation, sterilisation, etc.
“All IMA doctors are committed to come and join the efforts of the government to stop this menace as and when government directs in any way,” Arawattigi added further.
