PANJIM: The Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by Ashutosh Agnihotri, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) held a meeting with all the line departments’ officials for an on-the-spot assessment of the damages caused due to Cyclone Tauktae in the State, at Van Bhavan, Altinho-Panjim, on Friday.
Giving a power-point presentation Revenue Secretary Sanjay Kumar informed that the Cyclone extensively damaged electricity, water and telecommunication networks in the State. The cyclone has taken three lives for which relief amount has been transferred to the account of the next kin by the State government.
Around 2004 private houses and government buildings especially in the coastal belt were damaged. Much damage was caused to the standing crops. Based on the field reports, compensation has been paid, the Secretary added.
Further, Revenue Secretary informed that the State Disaster Management Authority led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assessed the estimated loss of Rs 153 crore and prepared a report and submitted it to the IMCT members. Thereafter, representatives Agriculture, Fisheries, Public Works Department, Electricity Department, Water Resources Department, Fire and Emergency and Information and Technology gave a detailed presentation.
