IMD announces withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon

PANJIM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Altinho Thursday announced withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from the State.

“The Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country today, October 19, 2023,” the IMD said.

The monsoon has withdrawn roughly four days after the normal date. The normal dates for southwest monsoon withdrawal from Goa and the rest of India is between October 10 and 15.

Despite the cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea, conditions had become favourable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from Goa as well as the rest of the country. The IMD, Delhi, had forecast the withdrawal of monsoon from the southern peninsula and from the entire country from October 1. The withdrawal line of the southwest monsoon in the State has been stationary since October 9.

The Southwest monsoon had hit Goa on June 11, six days after the normal date.
