On Friday the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Panaji issued a weather warning of an increased southwest monsoon rainfall activity over Goa. The report suggests an orange alert for the state of Goa till Tuesday, 11th June 2024.
Under the influence of the east-west oriented shear zone, rainfall activity is very likely to increase in the coming days over North & South Goa.
Heavy rainfall (rainfall>64.4mm in 24 hrs) to very heavy rainfall (rainfall>115.5mm in 24 hrs) is very likely at isolated places on 07th June 2024. Heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over both the North & South Goa districts on 8 th June 2024. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places on 09 th, 10th & 11th June 2024. Short intense spells and winds gusting to around 50kmph likely to tag along with the rainfall.

Possible Impact of Heavy to very heavy rainfall during the forecasting period
* Possibility of Cloud to ground lightning
* Some pooling of water on roads and low lying areas
* Localized mudslides
* Rough sea conditions along the coast
* Possibility of traffic congestion
* Short term water logging/flooding of roads and low lying areas leading water entering homes and shops at areas such as 18th June road, Patto, Mala, Talegao and other vulnerable areas.
* Roofing sheets may get dislocated in strong winds
* Possibility of water inundation on agricultural fields
* Fall of weak trees and weak structures, trees may uproot, breaking of branches and major damage to horticulture crops
* Localized and short-term disruption to municipal services (water, electricity)
* Temporary fall in visibility during intense spells of rain
* Community services may be affected
During heavy rainfall or flood-like situations:
* Avoid staying near weak trees/structures or areas vulnerable for landslides/rock falls
* Do not drive into flooded areas. Follow traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
* Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often.
* Take safety measures while dealing with electric power.
Strong winds and rough sea conditions:
* Beach sports activities may be regulated or stopped.
* Tourists should not be permitted to enter the sea while rough sea conditions prevail
