The IMD Goa has issued precautionary measures for the public on what to do and what not to do during the torrential rains flood-like situations, Strong winds and rough sea conditions, thunderstorms and hot weather. This advisory is issued keeping in mind the weather conditions of this week. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds gusting to 30-40 kmph are very likely to be witnessed at isolated places over the North Goa & South Goa districts of the state till 15th May 2024.
During thunderstorms:
• Avoid working in open areas and fields while thunderstorms are taking place.
• Avoid taking shelter under tall trees and structures when a thunderstorm is taking place
• Avoid using electrical appliances.
During heavy rainfall or flood-like situations:
• Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.
• Avoid staying near weak trees or areas vulnerable to landslides/rock falls
• Do not drive into flooded areas.
• Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
• Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
• Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often.
Strong winds and rough sea conditions:
• Beach sports activities may be regulated or stopped.
• Tourists should not be permitted to enter the sea while rough sea conditions prevail
During hot weather:
• Stay hydrated.
• Schedule frequent breaks
• Avoid getting sunburn
• Be alert to signs of heat-related illness
