IMD issues Orange alert for next four days

PANJIM: Intense spells of rainfall accompanied by strong gusts of wind on Friday resulted in the collapse of several old structures and weak trees across the state, and flooding across several parts of both districts. 

IMD Goa had issued a Red alert for the State on Friday, and  an Orange alert for the next four days. 

As per data recorded by the department until 4:30pm, Pernem received the highest rainfall at 67 mm, Panjim received 19.5 mm of rain, Old Goa 24.5 mm, Mapusa 40 mm, Mormugao 27 mm and Margao 39 mm. 

The State witnessed intense spells of rain at times for short intervals. Isolated locations and hilly ghat areas received prolonged spells of rain.

Several places also witnessed w short term water logging and flooding of roads and low lying areas, leading to water entering homes and shops along 18 June road, Patto, Mala, Taleigao and at localised vulnerable areas in Pernem, Bicholim, Bardez and Sattari.  

The water in rivers and canals temporarily reached warning levels in the flood-prone areas of Sattari, Bicholim, Canacona, Quepem and Salcette talukas.
