IMD issues orange alert for today, yellow alert for subsequent three days

PANJIM: India Meteorological Department (IMD), Goa, on Wednesday issued orange alert for July 18 warning of heavy rainfall at scattered places and very heavy rainfall at isolated places with strong surface winds.

“”Heavy rainfall at scattered places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places with strong surface winds is very likely over North Goa and South Goa districts on July 18, and heavy rainfall at scattered places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places with strong surface winds is very likely over North Goa and South Goa districts,” the IMD said.

Meanwhile, the rainfall received by during the last 24 hours recorded at 8.30 am of July 17, 2024, was Mapusa – 3 inches, Pernem – 2.1 inches, Ponda – 7.4 inches, Panjim – 3.77 inches, Sanquelim – 2.2 inches, Valpoi – 3.2 inches, Canacona – 2.9 inches, Dabolim – 4 inches, Margao – 4.6 inches, Mormugao – 4.7 inches, Quepem – 4 inches and Sanguem – 3.2 inches.

The IMD said since the onset of monsoon the state has so far received 87.81 inches of rainfall as against actual rainfall of 59 inches thereby registering a surplus of 48 per cent.
