PANJIM: The persistence of off-shore trough along Gujarat to Kerala coast and existence of cyclonic circulation is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rains for Goa, with Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow colour warning for the coastal State till June 29.
In the last 48-hours, heavy rains lashed several parts of Goa with the State recording over two inches of rainfall. The seasonal rainfall deficiency which was above 70 per cent till last week has dropped to 54 per cent as on Tuesday, June 27.
So far, the State has received a total of 365.4 mm of rainfall which is much below the normal average showers of 803.3mm.
In a weather bulletin issued Tuesday, IMD Goa has issued yellow warning for the State from June 27 to 29 as it forecast heavy showers for the State during the period.
IMD said that the low pressure area over North Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level persists. It is very likely to move towards north Madhya Pradesh during the next two days.
“The off-shore trough at mean sea level from South Gujarat coast to Kerala coast persists,” the IMD said.
The weather department further said that the east-west trough runs from Northwest Rajasthan to Northeast Bay of Bengal across South Haryana and South Uttar Pradesh.
