IMD predicts heavy showers for 5 days

PANJIM: Indian Meterological Department (IMD) Goa observatory has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Goa for five days from September 5 as a result of a possible formation of a low-pressure area in Bay of Bengal next week. 

IMD Goa in-charge Rahul said that the presence of a circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh and possible formation of a low pressure area over North and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal around September 6, the rainfall activity is likely to increase over South Konkan-Goa from Sunday onwards.

Heavy Rainfall, exceeding 6.4cm in 24 hours is very likely from Sunday onwards for about 5 days. 

Very Heavy Rainfall activity of over 11.5cm in 24 hours is likely at isolated places on September 6 and 7.

The southwest monsoon has been weak over Goa since beginning of August. The month recorded only 14 inches of rains- a total of 49 per cent deficit from its average normal, which is lowest since one decade. 

The seasonal rainfall has also been below normal so far for the State. Till date, State has recorded around 104 inches of rainfall as against its average of 106 inches of rains.
