IMD predicts heavy showers till June 29

Rain likely to be accompanied by gusty winds of speed up to 40 kmph for the next four days

PANJIM: Rains continued to lash several parts of the State for the second consecutive day even as Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Panjim, predicted heavy rains till June 29.

The IMD in its bulletin has forecast moderate to heavy rains at most places across the State for the next four days. Heavy rainfall is very likely at few places with very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places on Monday (June 26). It further stated that heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places from June 27 to 29.

During the last 24 hours, maximum rainfall of 12 mm was reported in Canacona taluka followed by Sanguem, Mapusa and Ponda.

Rains are likely to be accompanied by gusty winds of speed up to 40 kmph.

Incidents of uprooting of trees due to gusty winds were reported at several places.

At Bhatwadi, Arambol, a banyan tree got uprooted and came crashing on a cowshed belonging to Prahlad Ganphule. The loss is estimated to be Rs 2.50 lakh. The incident occurred in the evening when the cattle were taken out for grazing. The cow shed was badly damaged in the incident.

At Muslim Wada, Bicholim, a mango tree fell on the house of Shaikh Yacub causing a loss of Rs 20,000. The fire personnel went to the site and cleared the tree.

The IMD has issued orange alert in the State till Monday (June 26).

Fishermen have been advised not to venture along and off Goa coast till June 28.  

Two cars and a two-wheeler were damaged when a compound wall of a house crashed on them at Ektanagar, Mapusa. Luckily no one was injured as the incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday.

All the vehicles were parked near the roadside parallel to the compound wall.
