PANJIM: The Expert Committee on COVID-19 on Saturday suggested the government to impose restrictions only if hospital admission of coronavirus infected patients increases by 10 per cent
After reviewing all the restrictions recommended to the Task Force on COVID-19, Expert Committee member Dr Shekhar Salkar said that it will suggest to the Task Force to put restrictions based on the hospitalisation rate. Earlier, it had suggested to consider positivity rate and now the criteria will be admission of COVID patients in hospitals.
According to Dr Salkar, positivity rate is not the correct indicators to guide the government in the present scenario since there is vast different between second and third wave of coronavirus. He said if the admissions in the Goa Medical College (GMC) Super-Specialty Hospital Block at Bambolim go beyond 10 per cent then the 50 per cent restrictions can be put by the government. If the admission goes beyond 40 per cent at the GMC Super-Specialty Block then further restrictions can be imposed.
If admissions goes beyond 50 per cent in all three hospitals i.e. GMC, Super-specialty Block, North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa and the South Goa District Hospital, Margao then the government can impose curfew
Cases are found above 15 years old and seven children have been admitted and all are fine.
Another Expert Committee member Dr Dhanesh Volvoikar said that seven COVID-19 infected children above 15 years have been admitted in the GMC and all are fine. “We are getting cases of children but they are mild and most of the cases are asymptomatic,” he said.
