MARGAO: The Benaulim Residents and Consumer Forum (BRCF) has urged the authorities to initiate immediate action and end the violation of human rights of both doctors and patients at a discussion on the “dangerous practices and the plight of doctors, vis-à-vis patients, prevailing at the Hospicio, Margao”
“On several visits to patients at Hospicio hospital, sometimes at odd hours, what was noticed was the dangerous and inhuman practice of making a doctor to carry out duties for 24 hours continuously. Nowhere is such a practice being observed in or outside India. This is a breach of the directives of a Supreme Court judgment in a writ petition, wherein it is clearly stated that “in no case should the hours of work in a single shift stretch to more than eight hours, and in case of emergencies to 12 hours continuously,” said forum’s convenor Cyriaco Barretto.
