PONDA: The Ponda Traffic Cell booked a total of 19,316 violators and collected fines totalling over Rs 1.11 crore (Rs 1,11,75,000) from January to June 15 this year, addressing a variety of traffic violations. The highest number of violators, 2,673 cases, were caught ignoring no-entry sign boards and driving into roads notified for one-way traffic, followed by lane-cutting and using tinted window glasses.
The statistics reveal a notable reduction in helmet-less driving cases compared to the previous year. In 2023, there were 1,427 such cases during the same period, while in 2024, this number dropped to 886.
The traffic cell has also recommended the suspension of around 3,120 licenses to the Ponda Regional Transport Office (RTO) for various violations. These suspensions, lasting three months, will only be lifted after the violators undergo proper training at the RTO.
In an effort to raise awareness, the traffic police have conducted numerous awareness programs in schools and various other locations.
