In a bid to make State garbage-free, Govt to set up more WTPs

PANJIM: Minister for Waste Management Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate has proposed to set up five to six more waste treatment plants (WTPs) in the State in a bid to make Goa garbage-free.

Speaking to media persons, Monserrate said that he has set target to make Goa garbage-free and every step will be taken to achieve the target.

“The State will need more five to six waste treatment plants to handle the garbage. We have already identified the land for setting up these additional plants,” he said. The Minister informed that the proposed 100 TPD integrated solid waste management facility at Cacora-Curchorem in South Goa District will be ready for commissioning by end of next month.

On the Bainguinim Waste Treatment Plant, Monserrate said that fresh tender is likely to be floated for setting up of the facility, as the response to the last two tenders has been very poor.

He said that the Bainguinim facility will be developed in lines with the Saligao Waste Treatment Plant.
