CANACONA: : In a high-octane operation on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway in the early hours of Monday, Maharashtra State Excise Department successfully intercepted and apprehended suspects involved in a foreign liquor trafficking operation.
In a thrilling chase, the Bharari Team (Flying Squad) led by Excise Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryavanshi chased the culprits trying to evade capture in a luxury vehicle.
Inspector Sanjay Dalvi and his team played a pivotal role in the successful operation.
The suspects, identified as Isam Omkar Indrajit Sawant and co-accused Vaibhav Manoj Kambli, attempted to flee in the luxury vehicle but were intercepted in a skilful cine-style pursuit.
The apprehended vehicle, bearing registration number MH 07 AS 7301, was found with 81 boxes of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) manufactured in Goa, worth a little over Rs 4.65 lakh. The overall seized goods, including the luxury vehicle, amounted to a total value of Rs 16,65,120.
The Excise Department’s swift response comes against the backdrop of heightened vigilance due to the festive season of Christmas and New Year fast approaching.
A case has been registered against the accused under the provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act 1949, and further investigation will be carried out by Inspector Sanjay Dalvi.
