Panjim: Days after the notification covering the COVID-19 treatment under the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY) was kept in abeyance, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant maintained that the coronavirus ailment would not be considered under the health insurance scheme.
Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Sawant said that the notification, issued last week, would be withdrawn.
The notification bringing COVID-19 treatment in private hospitals under DDSSY ambit was issued on October 8. Three-days later, on October 11, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that the notification has been kept in abeyance and the same would be cancelled.
Sawant added that DDSSY benefit for COVID-19 is not required as the government has put in place the entire required infrastructure to tackle the infection. “Also, we have notified rates for treatment in private hospitals,” he said.
The CM added that it was in March that the government decided to cover COVID under cashless health insurance scheme, when the State was not prepared to deal with the cases with no infrastructure in place.
“But from March till now, the situation has changed completely,” he said.
