PANJIM: Lord Ganesh idols which were installed and worshipped in Hindu households for one-and-a-half-days were immersed in water bodies across the State on Thursday.
After performing poojas and offering aartis at home, lively processions of devotees ferried their Ganesh idols on vehicles decked out with flowers, accompanied by the beats of traditional drums, bursting of firecrackers and joyful chants of ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya, Pudchea Varshi Laukar Yaa’ , urging the lord of wisdom to come back soon, next year. The idols were immersed in the sea, rivers, lakes, ponds and other water bodies on Thursday night. While the rain Gods cooperated for the most part, devotees could enjoy the festivities of their visarjan processions with full abandon. No untoward incidents were reported during the immersion, police sources said.
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will continue across Goa, and Ganesh idols venerated at people’s homes will be immersed on varying dates till the `Anant Chaturdashi’ day, when the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandals will bid adieu to the elephant-headed God.
With most Covid-19 restrictions lifted, the festival was celebrated in a grand manner after two years of the pandemic.
